Food essay contest

Every now and then, my mother cooks estofado here in our home in ., although I must admit it is not as flavorful as my lola’s. And each time, I remember my past life in the Philippines with a smile and a small degree of heartache. Every bite of estofado brings back memories of my fun childhood, of the many lazy summers and noisy Christmases, of the darling friends I left behind, of the laughter and affection of my grandparents; one is long gone and the other, who promised to cook for me my favorite estofado, is still waiting for me to come home.

Together with the affidavit, the title of the screenplay, the author’s real name, address, contact numbers, and a three-to-five-sentence bionote should be enclosed in a sealed envelope, Entries may be submitted as a single hardcopy at the MTRCB office on 18 Timog Ave., Quezon City. Entries may also be snail-mailed or couriered, with the postmark honoring the deadline. They may also be submitted online, with the notarized affidavit scanned and sent as an image attachment, while the information on the author should be in a file separate from that of the screenplay, with both also sent as attachments. Youth Scholarship Program
Deadline is in late March
The Electronic Security Association maintains the Youth Scholarship Program, which will award scholarships to two children of active-duty police officers and firefighters. The first place winner will receive $7,500 to put toward their college education and the second place winner will receive $2,500. Awards are based on a combination of academic achievement, national test scores, extracurricular participation and an essay titled, “What it means to me to have my parent or guardian involved in securing our community.”
